WDP & West Ham United Foundation kick-off new football experience for service users

WDP and West Ham United Foundation, the award-winning outreach charity partner of West Ham United Football Club, are teaming up to give people who access substance misuse services the chance to obtain tickets for home matches at London Stadium.

This opportunity will be available through the Capital Card®, a ground-breaking and award-winning reward card scheme which empowers WDP’s service users and helps them to bolster their recovery journey.

The WDP Capital Card rewards service user engagement through a simple earn-spend points system.  They can earn points by attending appointments or engaging in treatment interventions, and then spend their points on fun activities in their local community, such as the cinema or gym.

From December 2018, Capital Card users in the London Boroughs of Havering and Redbridge will be able to enter a ballot to win tickets for the following West Ham United home games:

  • Cardiff on 4 December 2018
  • Brighton on 2 January 2019
  • Everton on 30 March 2019

West Ham United Foundation are donating a pair of tickets to each game as part of this pilot scheme and service users who are drawn from each ballot can ‘pay’ for these tickets with 50 of their Capital Card points.

Yasmin Batliwala, Chair of WDP, said: “We are delighted to be teaming up with West Ham United Foundation to give our service users such a fantastic opportunity.  I would like to welcome West Ham United Foundation into the Capital Card Spend Partner family and thank them for this extremely generous contribution.  It will have a big impact on our service users in east London.  I hope that we can continue to build on this pilot and work together to benefit not only our service users but also their local communities.”

Joseph Lyons, West Ham United Foundation CEO, added: “Public Health England stated in a recent report that in the last year there were 268,390 adults in contact with drug and alcohol services, including more than 10,500 18 to 24-year-olds. At West Ham United, we are committed to meeting the needs of the local community and by partnering with WDP and providing these rewards to Capital Card users in Havering and Redbridge, we hope that it will encourage them to progress in their recovery to transform their lives.”
